The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi Telu 1, says a viral video showing him clearing bushes alongside some of his subjects was a way of laying a good example.
In the 1:01-minute video, the flamboyant monarch can be seen wielding a cutlass and attacking the overgrown grass relentlessy.
The narrator in the video shared on the monarch’s social media pages disclosed that the bush clearing exercise took place at the Iwo Township Stadium on Sunday.
He said that the Oba Akanbi was flanked by President, Iwo Board of Trustees, Prof. Lai Olurode and other prominent members of the ancient town.
According to the narrator, the exercise showed their love for the development of the town.

In a caption accompanying the video, Oba Akanbi said, “Love your own with passion. It’s not about king/Oluwo cutting grass; it is about community love for the city!
“Paramount ruler of Iwoland, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi Telu 1; President Iwo Board of Trustees, Professor Lai Olurode; and others doing community work this morning.
“Please don’t ask us why we did not use lawn mowers or labourers. This is bringing our Iwo people together, spreading love.
“We lead by example to achieving the new Iwo of our dream.”
