‘We killed the people in Kano bar to prove we are the real Boko Haram’ – Marwana

2 Min Read

An alleged leader of the Boko Haram sect, Mohammed Marwana, who has been negotiating with the ‘Presidential Committee’ set up to broker peace with the terrorist group has claimed responsibility for attacks that killed over 40 people in Sabon-Gari area of Kano.

According to an audio message recorded and released by Marwana, he said he personally authorized the attacks.

“I personally instructed the attack in Kano to prove to the world that, I am the real leader of Boko Haram because there have been retrogressive forces on the issue of dialogue, who kept doubting my leadership in the sect. I told them ahead that there will be attack, and it has happened. It is a warning, and we need to say again that we carried out the attacks in Kano”, he said.

He also said that Abubakar Shekau, the most widely recognized leader of Boko Haram is still alive and hiding in an undisclosed location. He also admitted to having spoke with Shekau recently.

He stated, “Shekau is alive contrary to speculations, except that he lost leadership of the sect. I will not tell you where he is, but he is alive, and we talked with him not up to three hours ago, except if he died while I am talking.”

There are some quarters that believe Marwana is just a dummy presented by Northern stakeholders to collect billions from government in the name of ceasefire or amnesty for Boko Haram.
