We Have No Funds to Import Fuel – Oil Marketers

1 Min Read

Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Obafemi Olawore has said that marketers cannot continue with fuel importation because they don’t have money to import fuel.

Olawore told a Punch that Marketers are not on strike although they have not gotten an invitation from the government; there are indications that the government might invite them soon.

He said “We are not on strike. People are just painting us the way they want. We are not importing because we don’t have the money to buy the products. The government has not invited us. The only thing we have heard is the resolution of the Senate on Thursday and I think that they are going to invite us soon.”

Out of the N356.2bn subsidy the government reportedly owed oil marketers, the Ministry of Finance paid the sum of N156bn about two weeks ago and the government till not is yet to offset the remaining subsidy payment.

The Senate has directed its Committee on Petroleum Resources (upstream and downstream) to fully investigate the fuel scarcity situation in the country.
