Apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has vowed to resist any attempt by Fulani herdsmen to turn the South East geopolitical region into a killing field.
Recall that the hand of a businesswoman was chopped off in Ogbhor Hill, Aba, Abia State and some persons in Anam, Anambra State were butchered by suspected herdsmen recently.
The group said that while it was not against herdsmen going about their business, it would not condone a situation where such business ends up costing Igbo lives.
National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Chuck Ibegbu, said this while reacting to the security situation in the country, Vanguard reported.
He said, “We cannot tolerate the killings of our people in our land, as we notice the chopping off of the hand of a business woman in Ogbhor Hill, Aba, Abia State and the butchering of some people in Anam in Anambra State by herdsmen.
“Herdsmen rearing their cattle in towns, government houses and along highways is something that is not seen an where in the world except in Nigeria.
“The states from where these herdsmen hail and the Federal Government should also provide lands for fishermen, farmers and tradesmen from the South and Middle Belt to carry out their occupation.”
