The Nigerian Army has insisted that troops are still working to secure the release of the remaining Dapchi girl, Leah Sharibu, and other victims being held by Boko Haram.
According to accounts by returnees, the dreaded terror group had refused to return Sharibu for refusing to denounce Christianity and embrace Islam.
But the Army said that Sharibu and the remaining Chibok girls would “very soon” be reunited with their families.
In an NTA programme on Wednesday, army’s Deputy Chief of Policy and Plans, Maj. Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim, said, “We are going to have them back. I can assure you about that. There are a whole lot of non-kinetic operations that are ongoing. The government is also making tremendous efforts on not only Leah Sharibu, but other Chibok girls. Very soon, they will be joining their families. I am very optimistic about that.”
