The Nigerian Federal Government has dissociated itself from the current economic woes facing the citizens of the country.
The presidency addressing the current economic situation in the country noted that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is only on a mission to rescue Nigeria from the ruins the past administration plunged it into.
The declaration comes after the governors of the 36 states in the country agreed to cut down the size of their convoys, excessive travels and other spending in order to properly tackle economic recession.
Speaking at the end of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday at the presidential Villa in Abuja presided over by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udo Udoma noted that the Buhari-led administration is not to blame for the situation Nigeria is faced with.
The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai and Anambra State Deputy Governor, Mr. Nkem Okeke while speaking to the State House Correspondents also supported the claim.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Mr. Udo Udoma at the end of the meeting said: “We did not and are not responsible for the current economic situation we find ourselves. We are actually a rescue team, a team working to rescue Nigeria from the position we find ourselves in.”
He continued: “Under President Buhari, we are determined to take Nigeria out of the situation. The situation started long before we came. As you know, oil price started falling from 2014 when it was about $110 and by January this year, it was below $30. Unfortunately, they did not save.
“We are determined to take Nigeria from a consuming nation to a producing nation. That is why we are developing an economy recovery plan and that is our focus. We are committed to success.”
