Wayne Rooney was the man of the match last night as he led his team to a comfortable victory over Leverkusen.
The striker put United ahead with a fortuitous goal that had the German side furiously appealing for offside. United had to overcome a minor set- back when Leverkusen captain Simon Rolfes equalised early in the second half before Moyes’ side stamped their authority in the game.
Robin Van Persie ‘s magnificent volley put United back in front before Rooney turned on the style by scoring by scoring United third and setting up Antonio Valencia for the fourth.
A late second goal by Omer Toprak could not take the shine off the David Moyes’ men as the United Manager secured his first win in his first European campaign for United.
Rooney was easily United’s nest player on the night, he proved too powerful for the German side to overcome and showed his quality by getting his team-mates involved.
Rooney is now United’s fourth highest goal scorer of all-time with 200 goals and looks certain to surpass Bobby Charlton’s record of 249 goals.
