The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of results for the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.
A total of 65,023 candidates sat for the exams, which took place across Nigeria between October 25 and December 20, 2024. Of these, 34,878 candidates—representing 53.64%—achieved credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
However, 2,577 candidates had their results withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice.
How to Check Results
WAEC’s Acting Public Affairs Officer, Moyosola Adesina, urged candidates to check their results via www.waecdirect.org before accessing digital copies of their certificates at www.waec.org.
For candidates with withheld results, Adesina advised visiting WAEC’s Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal (https://waecinternational.org/complaints) to respond to allegations.
“All reported cases will be investigated, with evidence reviewed by the Council’s relevant committee. A final decision will be communicated directly to the affected candidates,” she stated.
Performance Breakdown
WAEC’s analysis revealed that:
- 16,886 successful candidates (48.41%) were male, while 17,992 (51.58%) were female.
- 67.55% of candidates obtained credit passes in at least five subjects, irrespective of English Language or Mathematics.
- Performance has shown steady improvement, with 42.16% and 44.29% achieving similar results in the 2022 and 2023 exams, respectively.
Candidates’ scripts were marked at five designated centres in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna between January 15 and February 4, 2025.
