The Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Thursday distributed learning materials to 2,000 pupils in Bukarti village of Yobe to support the post-insurgency education recovery plan of the state and Federal Government.

Prof. Sunday Ocheche, Executive Director of the Fund, stated at the flag-off of the distribution that 6,000 pupils from Gujba, Gulani and Yunusari Local Government areas of the state, were targeted to benefit from the gesture.

He said the gesture was designed to remedy the setback caused the education sector by activities of insurgents in the three most affected local government areas.

The director also said the support would enable pupils in the affected areas to recover from the past experience and build their today and tomorrow.

Ocheche said the Fund was partnering with non-governmental organizations based in the affected localities to reach out to targeted beneficiaries and to build the culture of ownership among the communities.

He assured that the Fund would soon commence reconstruction of destroyed structures in the affected areas.

Alhaji Muhammad Lamin, Yobe Commissioner of Education, commended VSF for supporting the educational development of the three local government areas.

The commissioner, who was represented by Director Schools, Hajiya Fatsuma Achama, urged the Fund to extend the gesture to other communities which facilities were over-stretched due to influx of displaced persons.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the learning materials include text and exercise books, writing materials, school bags and sandals, among others. (NAN)
