Americans have taken to social media to react to the performances of the Republican and Democratic Parties’ vice-presidential candidates, Mike Pence and Kamala Harris respectively, over the course of 90 minutes in the #VPDebate organized by NBC Saturday Night Live.
The candidates sat behind plexiglass-protected tables as they occasionally ripped into each other on subjects bordering on criminal justice reforms, trade war with China, COVID-19 handling, among others.
Pence’s calm and methodical mien was noticeable throughout as was Harris’s authoritative demeanor.
In all, many observers described the debate as uneventful, save the hilarious moment a fly landed on Pence’s head, and Harris disdain for being constantly interrupted by the VP.
“Mr Vice-President, I’m speaking,” she constantly said when interrupted. “If you don’t mind letting me finish, then we can have a conversation.”
Taking to Twitter, Americans had their say on what they thought won the debate.

Wow. Debate over. @VP just landed the K.O by pressing @KamalaHarris on record as a prosecutor against black people.
The facts don’t lie.
She is completely flustered.
Thank you, Mike Pence!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸#VPDebate2020

Vice President @Mike_Pence represented President @realDonaldTrump, his Administration and the American people very well tonight at the #VPDebate2020
He won the debate hands down because of the facts, data and record from this Administration. https://t.co/Ia00EAXpwq? pic.twitter.com/H8AJtKqCBG

What @KamalaHarris had to go out there and do was impressive. Between the moderation and Pence taking up so much ground, Kamala handled a terrible situation masterfully. #VPDebate2020 pic.twitter.com/LRGrdzbyHo

By big takeaway is no one will remember this debate by Saturday, maybe sooner.

How Pence showed up tonight just hasn't sat well in my spirit and I finally know what it is. He really was rude but also belittling at times. Many times. It's triggering for me as a woman and particularly a Black woman who has encountered many "Pences" throughout my career.

#auspol #VPDebate2020 The reason I scored Harris 75 and Pence 25 was because Pence consistently lied and obscured the truth. Harris did not. David Speers needs to understand that lying in politics should not be rewarded; he may see politics as a game from my experience it is not.

One thing to say about what’s bugging the liberals…
Yep. We love our Veep! He’s SO fly, even the #VPDebate2020 proved it out!
Great job @Mike_Pence! #WINNER #SOfly!

Watched the vice presidential debate tonight and we can declare @VP Mike Pence the clear winner — not by a knockout but on points. He drove home the administrations message coherently and effectively. Read my column tomorrow in @HumanEvents for further analysis! #VPDebate2020 pic.twitter.com/fcrbaGyCDD

My Democrat roommates keep calling Kamala an arrogant bitch and saying “I’m speaking” #VPDebate2020

Kamala Harris taking absolutely none of Pence's shit tonight was exactly the energy I needed. #VPDebate2020 pic.twitter.com/duaWFWKNai

"Sen. Harris turned in the best debate performance she has given all year. She wove together policy statistics, personal stories, and well-timed barbs, all while continuing to smile and remind VP Pence when he interrupted her that she was speaking,” – Lara Brown,GWU #VPDebate2020 pic.twitter.com/z1tzGOGOvl
