Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega has confirmed that Voters Card readers will be used for the conduct of next year’s polls.

Jega who spoke at the presentation of the Nigerian Media Code of Election Coverage in Lagos said all registered voters will get their permanent voters cards because the exercise will continue till 31st of January.

He added that anyone without PVC will not be allowed to vote. He said the card reader has the ability to detect fake PVCs and the machine cannot be manipulated.

He also expressed worry over the desperation of politicians. He said “What worries us most are the attitude, disposition and mindset of politicians. For many of them, they must win at all costs. Because of this, they do not obey the rules. If they do everything to undermine the process, there is nothing we can do.”

He urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure that politicians maintain decorum and that they do not use youths to engage in violent activities.
