President Jonathan visited the state of Anambra yesterday to campaign on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming elections, Tony Nwoye.
Whilst addressing a crowd in Onitsha at the Basilika of the Most Holy Trinity field, he urged the crowd to vote Nwoye describing him as “a young vibrant man with zeal to serve.”
”This election is special in the sense that it is holding on November 16 when one of the greatest leaders of the country, Azikwe, was born.
“It will be a very good birthday gift for great Zik and will bring Anambra State forward if you vote Comrade Tony Nwoye and PDP.
“Anambra people must work hard to make sure that the next Governor of this state is elected on the platform of PDP.
“Don’t be distracted by the rumours that some people are recruiting youths from neigbouring states, we must ensure security during and after the election and ensure one man one vote,” Jonathan said.
The President who was in the company of Akwa Ibom Governor, Tony Nwoye and PDP Chairman, Bamanga Tukur also said there would be free and fair elections.
During his address, Tukur said “Don’t continue to remain outside the fold, return back to your main umbrella and get your development, that is why we insisted on free and credible primary election to make sure that whoever emerges will be a man who will be acceptable by all to make sure the internal rancour that had been the bane of PDP in the state is taken care of and we must thank Mr. President for making it possible.”
In his address, Akpabio said, “I’m here to tell you the goodness that I followed Mr. President to Jerusalem and I bring with me here the blessing from the Holy Hand; Anambra, you are very lucky that this is the first political rally Mr. President is attending as a Pilgrim in the whole of Africa,” Akpabio said.
