Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has berated the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for saying that attacks on northerners outside the North were perpetrated mostly by the Igbo.
The Herald had reported that NEF Chairman, Prof. Ango Abdullahi made the allegation on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He led a delegation of northern elders to check the conditions of northern communities in other parts of the countries following the #EndSARS protests.

Reacting to Prof Ango Abdullahi’s statement, Ohanaeze President, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, who spoke through a statement by his
Media Adviser, Chief Emeka Attamah, described it as “incendiary, unsubstantiated and provocative”.
According to him, the statement was a “dangerous gaffe by a man who by learning, experience and exposure should know better”.
He said that since there has not been any case of mayhem and killings against the North in any Igbo-speaking state, warning that Abdullahi’s statement was capable of setting the nation on fire.
The Ohanaeze President dared the NEF chairman “to substantiate his wild and malicious claim unless it was intended to set up the Igbo for another round of killings in the North.”

Nwodo accused Abdullahi of exposing Igbo people to danger in the north by his statement.
Reiterating that Igbo people have never perpetrated violence against northerners, he emphasised that the same could not be said of northerners against Igbo people.
Nwodo said that the Igbo have borne the brunt and have been victims of age-long and misguided attacks and bloody orgies by their northern “brothers” at the slightest upheavals in the country, sometimes even as a result of an event outside the country, and no restitution has ever been made for such losses.
