The third instalment of the ‘Riddick’ series sees Vin Diesel reprise his role as the reluctant hero, Vin Diesel not only stars in the latest film but also produced and financed the movie.
It’s been nine years since Diesel has taken on the role of the dangerous predator battling space aliens and guns for hire, and without a big studio backing the project, the actor had to invest heavily to make this project a reality.
“I had to leverage my house, “ Diesel told the Hollywood Reporter at his L.A. premiere on Wednesday. “If we didn’t finish the film, I would be homeless.”
The movie budget is reported to be between $35 million and $40 million.
When asked why he had to risk it all with rumoured projects in ‘Fast 7’ and ‘XXX’, the actor said he did for his fans after the told him, “We want a rated-R movie and we’d be willing to pay $10 each. Surely you’d have enough to make it then.”
Riddick hits the theatres on September 6 and should be in Nigeria sometime in the future.
