Ejowvokoghene Divine Oduduru is arguably Nigeria’s fastest man and if you don’t believe it, perhaps you should watch his 200m heat race where he bested everyone else apart from the world’s fastest man– Usain Bolt.
Oduduru (29) ran a time of 20.34s, losing out marginally to Bolt who ran 20.28s in the race. He even received a hug from the Jamaican which was basically an acknowledgment of Oduduru’s strength.
He is now in the final and a few people are saying that he could just maybe edge the Jamaican.
He’s certainly a confident lad as a couple of old interviews show. He’s also fun to interview as you can see his heart is on his sleeve and he truly loves his country.
Take for Instance this video from the All African Games held in Congo last year. When asked what his chances were of winning the finals considering Koffi from Cote D’Ivoire was also in the race. Odururu responded, “Well, I don’t care if Usain Bolt is even in the race, It’s not our business, all we’re here for is to run”
In another Interview, this on from 2013, he spoke after qualifying for the final WYC Donetsk 200m final. He said when asked about how the final was going to be, “The final will be a deadly day, It’s going to be both of us and we’ll die on the line, cos I’m ready to run to the last because I have black man blood in me, and African people, we’re born great, I’m ready for it”
Brave words and also enough to make Nigerians everywhere proud. You can see the second video below.
