Tony Chapron a referee who moderated Paris Saint Germain’s win of 1-0 over Nantes on Sunday kicked Diego Carlos while he was on the ground before issuing him another yellow card and sending him off.
The incident happened during injury time, Chapron stepped into the backpedalling Diego and was knocked over. It was then that referee Tony Chapron kick the player before sending him off the field.
“He told me that he had never wanted to kick the player and that he had felt himself pushed in the back.” said Waldemar Kita president of Nantes.
“It’s a joke. I got 20 text messages from across the world telling me this referee is a joke.” Kita told French media stations. “What do you want me to say? If I speak too much I’ll be called in front of an ethics commission. We have no right to say anything”
Valentin Rongier a Nantes midfielder who witnessed the incident has appealed for Chapron to be given a long ban.
“He says he slipped, but I know he kicked him. I know it’s very difficult to referee but you have to question them from time to time… We do that, we get a 10-match ban.”
Gary Lineker the former England striker and Iker Casillas former Real Madrid keeper also commented but through their twitter accounts:
“Yes, for me its aggression and red! Three matches minimum!” Said Lineker
“Surely the good man will have apologised. It was spontaneous.” Casillas wrote.
