Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele has demanded an end to flogging in Nigerian schools, describing the practice as “wicked” and “evil”.
She made this known in the caption of a video she uploaded on her verified Instagram account Tuesday evening.
The original video was shared by another popular Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw.
In the video which had been watched more than 100,000 times in less than eight hours on Akindele’s page, a male teacher could be seen viciously flogging some female students who laid flat on the bare floor with what appeared like a long cable.
The students, who were on a sort of assembly line, could be seen writhing in pains after being subjected to a bout of flogging by the teacher.
It could not be immediately determined why the teacher was flogging the students.
However, Akindele demanded to know the identity of the school and the teacher, calling for the teacher’s sack and the discontinuation of flogging in the school.
She wrote: What? Who is this TEACHER flogging these students? What school is this? I’m so sad seeing this and I must say this act is WICKED,EVIL. Can’t they be given other punishments? Are they not human beings? What if one of them passes out in the process? What of the injuries inflicted on them? I’m so angry! Tani Tisa yi? Pls they should STOP THIS O!!!!!!!!😡😡😡 This teacher has to be sacked!!!

Kate Henshaw, who originally shared the video on her page, condemned the action of the teacher which she described as “abominable”.
She further recommended other forms of punishment that could have been given in lieu of flogging.
She wrote: This is abominable!!
I condemn this act in its entirety!!!
These children could have been punished in several other ways!!
Cutting of grass, Sweeping the classrooms, washing the pots and utensils in the kitchen, clearing the refuse dump….
This teacher has to be sacked!!!
