The case of Abbas Ramoni Igbalode, popularly known as Hushpuppi will go down in history as one of the most straightforward cases the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) would ever have to handle.
Known for his flashy lifestyle and flaunting of high end luxury goods and cars from Gucci, Fendi and Versace to Mercedes and Lamborghini. On Instagram, Hushpuppi became the standard of wealthy living for Nigerian youths including musicians and politicians who sang his praises in hit songs and took numerous pictures with the man who would perhaps be one of the biggest fraudsters to ever come out of Nigeria.
In this recently released video, the FBI revealed how Hushpuppi’s endless chase for clout and fame on social media led to his downfall. Like many Nigerians on social media, Hushpuppi enjoyed the attention he received by showing off his acquisitions, property and money. Unknown to the man who abandoned Nigeria for the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, international security agencies like the FBI and the Dubai police were also ‘keeping up with the Hushpuppis’ through his live telegram videos.

In the video, the FBI narrated how Hushpuppi’s Instagram posts attracted the attention of the bureau who had been investigating numerous cases of fraud being reported by companies which had fallen victim to the schemes of the Instagram influencer.
The narrator noted that Hushpuppi who claims to be a real estate investor, had made billions of dollars by the age of 37 and spent it very publicly on social media, making it easy for investigators to put their case together.
The narrator narrated how his posts showed him splurging money on private jets, clothes, shoes and parties, corroborating evidence submitted by the Dubai Police when they carried out a raid on his apartment earlier in the year.
