Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, the wife of Nigeria’s first Military Head of State, late Gen. Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, has died.

She reportedly died early Monday at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Abia state.

The Herald learnt that the deceased battled stroke for a prolonged period before her demise.

Late Madam Victoria was born on November 21, 1923, and got married to Aguiyi-Ironsi in 1953, birthing eight children.

She was First Lady from January 17, 1966, to July 29, 1966, when her husband was assassinated in a coup d’etat in Ibadan, in present-day Oyo State,
