Victor Moses should be ashamed to show his face to his family – Garry Monk

3 Min Read

Garry Monk blasted Victor Moses, branding the player a “cheat”.

The Swansea boss hit out after Moses took a tumble under minimal pressure from Angel Rangel and won a penalty.

Monk called referee Michael Oliver’s decision a ‘disgrace’ and hammered Moses for his antics saying he should ashamed to face his family.

Mark Hughes weighed into the argument, saying his counterpart should keep his mouth shut.

Swansea took the lead after Ryan Shawcross fouled Wilfried Bony, allowing the striker to convert the penalty. But the game was level after Moses fell in the box and Charlie Adam scored. The winner came in the 76th minute when Jon Walters headed the ball into the net.

Monk said: “It is a disgraceful decision. So blatant, so obvious. He should be punished. He is cheating. He has cheated the ref. It was a game-changing moment. It is a disgusting decision. How he can’t see it as a blatant dive is beyond me. It is clear cheating.

“One of the most blatant dives you can see and Moses should be ashamed of himself.

“I wouldn’t show my face to my family if I’d done that. It’s a disgrace and he should be punished.”

Hughes said: “I think it is a bit emotional after games when you have lost a game you were leading.

“Sometimes you have to bite your lip and watch what you say. The longer you are in this game, you have to curb what you feel.

“I don’t think he dived. He felt contact. He was running at pace. If you look at the angle I have seen there is a movement from Angel to knock him off his stride.

“That is to impede him. It is soft. You can argue as much as you like, but the referee gave it and you get on with it. For the first penalty, people are trying to highlight Shawcross being adept at holding in the box. From time to time, we all do. Give penalties for that and you have to at both ends.”
