Rebekah Vardy, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie, has sued Coleen Rooney, the wife of ex-England captain Wayne, for libel.
Rooney, 34, had in October 2019 claimed that Vardy’s Instagram account was used to leak information about her private life to the public.
The 38-year-old reality star vehemently denied the accusation at the time, and, reports claim, she filed court papers at the High Court on June 12.
She claimed that the stress of their public spat, caused by the accusation, caused her to have severe anxiety attacks.
Rooney said last year that she engaged experts who used five months to track who was responsible for the leaks about herself and her family based on information she shared on her personal social media pages.
Reacting, Vardy claimed at the time that third parties had access to her Instagram account and an expert was working to discover who could have been behind the leaks.
While no court date has been fixed, the case is expected to go to trial unless both parties reach a settlement.
Meanwhile, Rooney has vowed to spend millions to win the legal battle.
“Legal fees could easily spiral into seven figures, it’s only going to intensify,” The Sun quoted an unnamed source as saying.
