Real Madrid’s defender, Raphel Varane, has tested positive for COVID-19, ruling him out of the club’s UEFA Champions League quarterfinal games against Liverpool.
The club disclosed Varane’s positive status in a statement on Tuesday.
“Real Madrid CF informs that our player Raphael Varane has given a positive result in the Covid-19 test that has been carried out this morning,” a terse statement published on the club’s website read.
The Frenchman is the second experienced defender that Real Madrid would lose, as Sergio Ramos is also ruled out of Tuesday’s encounter at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
It will however be good news to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
