Vandalism: NSCDC testing Drones to catch Culprits

1 Min Read
PIC. 27. MEN OF NIGERIAN SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS ARMED SQUAD BATCH 'A' IN OYO STATE AT THEIR PASSING OUT PARADE IN IBADAN ON FRIDAY (21/12/12).

Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is considering using drones outfitted with an infrared camera to document evidence of vandalism and catch culprits.

NSCDC Commandant General Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu made this revelation while addressing news men in his office at National Headquarters Abuja.

He disclosed that in the coming weeks, NSCDC will be testing the new weapon to combat vandalism.

Gana said “We must find new ways to fight vandalism.”

Speaking further, he explained that the drone, outfitted with an infrared camera and the NSCDC’s logo will use Global Positioning System (GPS) to document the times and places where vandals are observed, making it easier to prosecute culprits.

The drone will fly at an altitude of some 150 meters (492 feet), recording 80 minutes while quietly moving in the sky at up to 54 kilometres (33 miles) per hour.

Gana insisted that the drones will be able to cover large areas in a short amount of time.
