Robin van Persie wants to extend his stay at Old Trafford, the Dutchman enjoyed a fruitful firs campaign collecting a second successive Golden Boot and the prestigious Barclays Premier League title.
In an exclusive interview on MUTV, Van Persie revealed his intentions.
‘I have three more years to go and I would like to stay longer,’ the 30-year-old said. ‘I know, and I see people around me, making decisions where I think these guys will look back and say “was that a good one?”. I don’t want that.
‘I want to play as long as possible at the highest level.’
Winning trophies has become a priority for Van Persie, who had not won a thing at Arsenal since their FA Cup final victory over United in 2005. He also already won the Community Shield this season and the player is hungry for more.
‘That (winning trophies) is what it is all about,’ he said. ‘Last year we got one trophy in four. Now we have to look at it from the opposite side.
‘We have the chance to get five this year. How many do we get out of those five? In my opinion we should be able to win two or three.’
Manchester United got their campaign back on track over the weekend with a comfortable 2 – 0 win over 10-man Crystal Palace. United will launch their Champions League campaign tomorrow evening with a game against Bayern Leverkeusen on Tuesday night.
