The future of Robin van Persie at Manchester United remains in doubt as the Arsenal and Juventus target is prepared to lose a £10m loyalty bonus in order to leave the club, reports the Mirror.
The Dutchman has been left disillusioned at Old Trafford since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson as manager and the new era under David Moyes.
It was Ferguson’s influence that convinced van Persie to join the Red Devils ahead of Juve and Manchester City in a £24m move from the Gunners in 2012.
The Netherlands international has since stressed that he would not have made the switch had he been made aware of the United legend’s impending retirement and Moyes and the forward have come to blows over training techniques.
Italian football journalist Tancredi Palmeri reported back in February that Arsene Wenger was prepared to make a £29m bid to bring van Persie back to the Emirates Stadium, having met with the attacker’s agent Kees Vos.
However, it now looks as if the north London club would be unwilling to sanction such a large amount for a player approaching his 31st birthday and therefore La Bianconeri have arisen as the favourites.
Yet with Fernando Llorente, Carlos Tevez, Sebastian Giovinco and Mirko Vucinic already at the club, along with the option to buy on-loan forward Pablo Osvaldo in the summer, attack hardly looks like Antonio Conte’s priority for recruitment.
Van Persie is tempted by a switch to Serie A, although with rich boys AS Monaco and Chelsea also showing interest – according to the Mirror – the Netherlands international could be swayed by more money elsewhere.
Moyes has insisted throughout this speculation that there is no rift between himself and his star player, whilst the attacker has said questioning his managers is just a way of learning.
With the Premier League champions being linked with a shock £58m switch for Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani by CaughtOffside, cashing in on the aging van Persie may not be the worst idea though.
