Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will leave the club if they fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season, Fichajes reports.
The 64-year-old manager has been having it rough in the current league season, with the club sitting at 5th place and six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
Different sections of the British media had reported on Friday that United representatives were in touch with sacked Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to replace him at Old Trafford, reports the Dutchman described as “nonsense”.
However, with the club recording another draw at Chelsea on Sunday, hope of UCL qualification seems to be slipping away.
According to the report, Van Gaal is believed to be reluctant to leave the club but will do so willingly if the season ends without the team qualifying for Europe’s elite club competition.
While the blame for United’s lacklustre performance has been placed majorly on Van Gaal’s shoulders, club captain Wayne Rooney has called on critics to direct some of the blame towards the players, who are the ones actually doing the playing.
