The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, today called the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar ahead of Saturday’s presidential election.
Atiku made the disclosure in a tweet via his verified Twitter handle, and shared a photo of himself holding a phone.
The former vice president is believed to be the main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is seeking a second term in office.
Atiku said, “Earlier today I received a call from US Secretary of State, (Mike Pompeo) who reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to free and fair elections in Nigeria.
“Wishing you all a peaceful elections, wherever you are. God bless Nigeria.”
