Twitter has announced the activation of extra security features for accounts of politicians and key figures as the November 20, U.S. Presidential election approaches.
According to the social media giant, a select group of accounts linked to politicians will be asked to make immediate changes to improve account security.
The new changes have come following an attack in June, where the Twitter accounts of prominent people were hacked and hundreds of users were fleeced of millions of dollars in Bitcoin value. While high profile accounts like those of Joe Biden and Bill Gates were hacked, Donald Trump was left unscathed because he used an extra layer of security.
The social media network said it has learned from past security incidents and was focused on election security as it announced certain high profile accounts for additional proactive internal security precautions.

The selected accounts will start receiving in-app notifications of changes and will be required to change to very strong passwords before they can log in. They will also be encouraged to enable the two-factor authentication.
