Update: Malaysian Police Reveal Why They Were After Nigerian Student Who Died After 13-Storey Jump

The Malaysian police have come out to explain why they were after Nigerian student, Uju Pious Ejikeonye, who jumped to his death in a bid to evade capture.

According to the Malaysian police, the student was involved in parcel scams.

Ejikeonye died after jumping from the 13th floor of a condominium in Desa Aman Puri, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, March 11, in his effort to avoid arrest by the police

Police Chief ACP Ali Ahmad, speaking during a press conference at Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD), on Monday, clarified why the police were after him.

He said; “The police arrested a Nigerian man and a Filipina woman, but another Nigerian man evaded arrest and was believed to have jumped off the 13th floor of the condominium,”

This, they said was in response to a report by a 58-year-old woman who lost RM13,200 due to a parcel scam. The police then conducted a raid in which the Nigerian mastermind and his Filipina accomplice were arrested. Ejikeonye, however, died evading arrest.

Ahmad added that the police also seized seven debit cards, eight mobile phones and five laptops in the raid.

He also said that the investigation found three of the suspects had used student passes while another used a social visit pass and all, aged from 30 to 34 years, were remanded until March 24 to help in the investigation.
