The National Industrial Court, Abuja, will on April 6 hear a case instituted by one Agboghoroma Oyoma against the Accountant-General of the Federation, seeking payment of his 26 months’ salary.

Oyoma, who retired from the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria in June 2015, sued the Accountant- General of the Federation and the Council over his alleged unpaid basic salary.

Justice Edith Agbakoba fixed the date to allow the claimant and the third respondent, the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, to settle out of court.

Counsel to the claimant, Mr Chris Oruete, had informed the court of the moves by the third respondent to settle the matter out of court.

“The third respondent has called for a meeting for settlement my lord. We want to give them a month to see what will come out of the meeting,” he said.

The retiree had alleged that the respondents owed him 26 months’ salary before his retirement.

The claimant said that all he wanted was for the court to prevail on the respondents to pay him the money.

Oyoma who is also asking for N10 million as damages, also joined the Federal Civil Service Commission and the Attorney-General of the Federation in the suit.

The respondents had filed a conditional memorandum of appearance, but were not represented in court. (NAN)
