The management of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka has disclosed that 167 impersonators were nabbed at the school’s just concluded post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination screening exercise.
This was revealed in a press release signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the school, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu.
The alleged impersonators, the press release confirmed, have been handed over to security agencies for proper investigation and prosecution.
According to Dr. Ojukwu, “Some of those who we caught revealed that their parents actually looked for their impersonators and paid for the service.”
Furthermore, he revealed that of the 30,477 prospective candidates that registered for the screening exercise on the university’s online portal, only 28,233 turned up.
He attributed the inability of the rest to turn up to the giant step the university took to forestall examination malpractice, particularly impersonation.
In the same vein, he said the university installed newly-acquired biometric apparatus which was used to confirm whether the fingerprints of prospective candidates that registered on the online portal matched the ones that came for the screening proper.
Dr. Ojukwu confirmed that the result of the screening exercise was out and advised candidates to check the school’s web portal for theirs.
Similarly, he advised candidates who chose affiliated institutions not to lose any sleep, as their screening will place at a later date.
