The management of University of Ilorin says its radio station, 89.3 FM, has been admitted into the ‘Radio Garden’, a new global technological innovative radio distribution network.
The Station Manager, Mr Idris Akintola, told newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday that the ‘Radio Garden’ was a digital device, developed by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision.
Akintola said that through the device, radio stations admitted into the network could be clearly monitored at anytime from any part of the world.
“In its relentless pursuit for excellence and peerless quality service delivery to its numerous listeners, the Unilorin 89.3 FM, the official radio station of the University of Ilorin, has been captured into the ‘Radio Garden’.
“Radio Garden’ is a new global technological innovation in radio redistribution services.
“The admittance of the Unilorin FM into the network of the comity of truly international radio stations, as exemplified in the innovative ‘Radio Garden’ has again confirmed its better- by-far status.
“The station is now one of the 25,000 radio stations across the world enjoying the service and certainly one of the very few of such in Nigeria,” the station manager said.
He assured that the station would continue to be creative, innovative and imaginative in order to offer the best of services to its listeners, wherever they might be.
The Director, Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the capturing of the only functional campus radio station in Kwara in the global radio technology was unparalleled within the state and across the country.
“The development will not only assist my office to promote the image of the university globally, but also catalyse the rate at which the vision and mission of the institution will be accomplished.
“The new status will also facilitate healthier, closer and more effective interactions between the institution and her relevant publics all over Nigeria and beyond,” Akogun said.
He congratulated the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, for leading the institution to another unique corporate achievement. Akogun also commended the station manager and members of staff of the station for their consistent productivity and creativity, saying it always placed the station on top of its competitors in quality and service delivery.

He expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the station’s board, Prof. Ayo Akinwale, and other members for their consistent support, even as he praised the listeners for their loyalty and support. (NAN)
