The Deputy Bursar of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, has in a recent gathering declared that it is not a crime for children to hawk goods especially if the children do so in their spare time when they are not meant to be in school.
The Deputy Bursar of the institution further stated that it is possible for a family faced with economic recession to channel its growth through additional means such as employing the services of their children to hawk goods and services to make ends meet.
Speaking at the 9th Muktar Isale-Koto Annual Islamic Lecture held in the university on Tuesday, the Deputy Bursar of the Institution, Oba, said: “I and members of my age group in those days hawked to augment the family income while we were children, yet many of us turned out successful professionals.”
He further noted that Muslims need to be cautious of the epidemic vice in the society, corruption, adding that they should resist the temptation to fall into its clutches.
The Bursar of the Institution, Mallam Lukman Isale-Koto also called for a paradigm shift in thinking that troublesome children were only fit for Islamic schools.
He urged parents and other Muslims to provide children-friendly environment to grow the Arabic and Islamic institutions in the country adding that those educational set ups must be made conducive for learning.
The Chief Imam anf missioner of the UK-based Ansarul Rahman Islamic Association, Sheikh Muhydeen Al-Kubrah, further stressed the need for quality parenting stating that, “It is indispensable in our quest for national development.”
