To protest what they regarded as discrepancies in the payment of entitlements, lecturers of the University of Jos, Plateau State, have embarked on an indefinite strike.
In a statement by the Chairman of the UNIJOS chapter of the Acadamic Staff Union of Universities, Prof. F.C. Piwuna, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, the lecturers demanded improved working conditions among other demands that where ratified by ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC).
The statement which was released on Friday read: “The NEC of ASUU has approved our request for total, indefinte and comprehensive strike starting immediately.
“It means that all activities — teaching, supervision, examination as well as statutory and ad hoc committee meetings — have been suspended.”
NAN found that the lecturers were also demanding that certain outstanding allowances be paid to them.
