An unemployed man has been remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to stealing a pair of jeans trousers worth N3,500.
The accused, Emmanuel Ijoko, 30, was charged before the court for stealing the item at a shop owned by Mr. Joseph Ogba and located at 35, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja.
According to the police prosecutor, Insp. Frank Inah, the complainant, Ogba, was inside his shop on November 23 attending to his customers when the accused person strolled by the entrance of the shop and stole the item which was on display outside.
Inah said the accused was about making away with the item when a person nearby saw him and gave chase.
He said the accused’s action contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Osinbajo, adjourned the case till December 4 for sentencing, but not before ordering that the accused be remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons.
