A 35-year-old unemployed man, Stephen James, was on Friday sentenced to one year imprisonment by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for injuring a female neighbour during a fight.
James was arranged on a two-count charge of assault and causing grevious harm.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
Magistrate M. F. Onanusi, who sentenced James to one year imprisonment without an option of fine, said that it would take effect from the date of the pronouncement.
Onanusi sentenced James after listening to the review of facts of the case given by the Prosecutor, Sgt. Godspower Ehizoba.
Ehizoba had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 9, about 4.00am, at Adeyemo Alakija Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He said that James had a misunderstanding with the Complainant, Miss Bashirat Quadri, which resulted into a fight.
According to him, James used a chair stand to hit the girl all over her body “thereby causing grevious injuries on her head, nose, face, neck, back, right hand and right elbow”.
The offences contravened Sections 173 and 245 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
