“Acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of the motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever it is committed.

“All states need to combat this menace by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law.

“These obligations include,  international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorists attacks,” the security council said.

The body expressed sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the people and Government of Nigeria.

The security council also wished a speedy recovery to those injured and commended the efforts of countries in the region, including that of the Multinational Joint Task Force, to effectively combat terrorism.

“The perpetrators, organisers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism need to be brought to justice.

“All states should cooperate actively with the Nigerian government and other relevant authorities in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions,” it said.
