Umahi names PDP bigwigs with whom he planned APC defection

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi said he planned his recent defection from PDP to APC with former Senate President Pius Anyim and National Assembly members from the state.

He stated this while addressing APC stakeholders during a meeting at the Bouquet Lodge, Old Government House, Abakaliki on Sunday.

The governor said the agreed plan was for Anyim and other leaders to join him in APC two weeks after he must have successfully defected.

According to him, Anyim, the National Assembly members, and the elders from the state all signed off on the defection.

He said they even produced a defection arrangement.

Umahi said the National Assembly members became furious after he beat them in their game to defect before him contrary to the arrangement.

Umahi said Anyim pulled out because he (Umahi) went to see President Muhammadu Buhari without carrying him along.

Anyim was Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under the Dr Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The governor addressed the N5 billion loan Anyim allegedly gave him to prosecute his 2015 governorship ambition.

“I was a deputy governor, somebody occupying the highest position from the Southeast (referring to Anyim) went and arranged for a N5 billion loan for me to prosecute the presidential election for his government.

“I had to sell many of my property to pay back that money,” the Ebonyi governor said.

Anyim has yet to respond to the allegations, although his aide has promised he would formally respond today (Monday).
