Having a drink when we’re in a bad mood is something most people can relate to, but climbing on to an overhead power cable afterwards is a bit more unusual.
That was the excuse and response of one man in China after he had a few too many drinks last week, as his climbing antics were caught on camera and broadcast on state TV.
The footage shows him dangling from the wires upside down from a height of around 9m (30ft) and moving sloth-like along the cables in Linfen, in northern China’s Shanxi province.
After the power was cut a firefighter climbed an electricity pole to attempt to coax the man down, but he refused to play ball.
The drunken climber lost his grip and fell on to a second layer of wires below before finally giving up altogether and landing on a safety cushion installed by emergency services.
CCTV reported that the man miraculously escaped without any injuries, apart from an excessive amount of alcohol in his blood.
