When Gareth Bale produced a stunning overhead kick in the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool, what was on his mind was winning the game.
At the end of the game, however, with their third consecutive Champions League trophy in the bag and being able to watch his goal again, he must have thought to himself ‘hmmm, i reckon this could make goal of the season’
It did not.

This fact actually shocked the Welshman who even joked that the UEFA panel needs to be sacked.
The nomination went instead to Cristiano Ronaldo’s overhead kick against Juventus in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League and while Bale isn’t saying his was better, he certainly expected it to be there.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “I don’t know how it wasn’t on that list!
“I want to know who is on the panel because they want to be sacked.”
When asked whether he felt his goal was better than Ronaldo’s, he was non-committal in his answer
“It’s not for me to say!”
Bale’s overhead kick was the first of two goals he scored on the night to win Madrid the trophy and it was almost a passing of the torch as he was the star man of the day in a match that turned out to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last for the club.
