Uber Issues Statement Regarding Murder Of Lagos Driver

3 Min Read

Ride hailing app, Uber, has issued a statement regarding the death of one of its alleged cab driver identified as Ehobosa Alex.

Recall that news broke some days ago regarding the murder of the driver by two men who were reported to be professionals in dispossessing drivers of their cars and killing them.

In reaction to the murder of the driver who was earlier reported to have been working for the ride hailing company, Uber has denied ties with the deceased noting that he was not a registered driver.

The ride hailing company further noted that the deceased was not using their Uber app when he was booked by the arrested suspects who allegedly murdered him on Sunday April 9th.

Recall that the arrested suspects, Osaro Egbomrewen and Michael Eyeoekpe, were reported to have hailed the ride which they originally told to head to Oke-Ira in Ogba, Lagos but took a detour to Oremeji street in Ogba where they strangled the driver and made away with his Kia vehicle with an intent to sell it off.

The victim’s body was dumped in front of a church in Ogba while the suspects were subsequently arrested in Edo state where they planed to sell the car.

Uber in its statement regarding the death of the Lagos driver said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news. We are busy reaching out to offer our support to the driver’s family. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and we extend our sincerest condolences.

This is a senseless act and the guilty parties must be prosecuted. We are relieved to hear the suspects have been arrested. We will support the authorities in any way possible to assist in their investigation.

We can confirm that the driver was registered to use the Uber app, but he was not using the app during the time of the incident, therefore we have no reason to believe that this crime is related to Uber in any way.”
