Forty customers of United Bank of Africa (UBA) had been rewarded by the bank as part of efforts to leverage its market share and customer base in the highly competitive banking sector.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Charles Aigbe, the bank’s Divisional Head, Corporate Commission in Lagos on Saturday.
The statement said that the award was the second batch of UBA’s reinvigorated social responsibility programme under its Remittance Awoof Promo.
It explained that the brand award was aimed at rewarding customers’ loyalty, and impact lives of individuals, corporate organisations that kept faith with the bank in the current global financial challenges.
The statement said that 10 winners, five each of Western Union and MoneyGram would be enjoying a three-day all expenses paid trip to Kenya, sponsored by the bank.
The statement said the winners emerged from account holders and non-account holders that sent and received MoneyGram and Western Union money transfers between January 25 and April 30.
It added that 40 customers won 10 DSTV decoders with one year free subscription, 10 home theatre systems, 10 base speakers, while 10 also won other items among others.
The statement noted that the 40 customers represented an equal number of Western Union and Moneygram customers.
It quoted the Bank’s Group Head, Consumer and Digital Banking, Mr Anant Rao as saying “the award was to appreciate customers for their loyalty and trust in the bank.’’
The statement said that the Awoof Promo was carried out to reward customers who had patronised the bank in one way or the other.
“This is our way of rewarding people who bank with us, not necessarily our customers.
“It is part of our bank’s transformation process to put the customers’ first and to connect with them.
“It is also a way of acknowledging our customers and we are doing this to create a rewarding experience for the UBA customer,” it said.
It added that UBA was a leading player in the remittance segment, offering money transfer services through MoneyGram, Western Union and AfriCash.
