U-20 World Cup: Flying Eagles Jet Out Tomorrow To Germany

2 Min Read

The Flying Eagles will depart Nigeria for Germany on Saturday for their final preparation ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup tournament scheduled to take place in New Zealand.

Mohammed Sanusi, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Football Federation, revealed this to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

It will be recalled that the team was earlier scheduled to depart the shores of the country on April 30 but could not do so due to visa procurement challenges Sanusi told newsmen in Abuja that the team would now depart on Saturday following the procurement of the visas. He said: “The under-20 national team will travel on Saturday.

“They couldn’t travel because we have multiple visas to get. “First was that of Germany and the second was that of New Zealand, which we have to get in South Africa. “You know the problem in South Africa.

“It was difficult to go there and look for visas but we have gotten them now.

“The passports of members of the team will be taken to German embassy where they will stamp the visa and they will travel on Saturday.”

The Flying Eagles will have a final training camp in Germany before the World Cup starting next month in New Zealand.

Nigeria is drawn alongside Brazil, Hungary and Korea DPR at the tournament that holds between May 30 and June 20 among 24 countries from six continents.

The African champions are expected to arrive at their base in New Plymouth, New Zealand on May 25, ahead of their first match of the tournament against Brazil on June 1. Nigeria won the FIFA U-20 silver both in the 1989 and 2005 tournaments.
