Two elderly brothers rape girl, 15, in Ibadan

2 Min Read

A 65-year-old man, Waheed Kareem, and his 60-year-old brother, Rasheed Kareem, have been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at Olude, Apata, in Ibadan, Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The victim is said to be Waheed’s stepdaughter.

The Punch reported that Waheed has been arrested and detained at the Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department while Rasheed has fled to escape a similar fate.

Waheed, an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State, allegedly raped the victim, who is a Junior Secondary School (JSS) One student of a government-owned secondary school.

The victim told the police that she began to experience abuse at the hands of her biological father at two.

She said the abuse started after her mother, Abiodun Kareem, quit the marriage to her father and moved out of their matrimonial home, leaving her behind.

She said the abuse continued until she was eight.

The victim said her father was arrested and died in prison.

According to her, her stepfather and his brother began to sexually abuse her in 2021.

The victim said her stepfather had sex with her weekly but his younger brother known popularly as Onaala did it daily.

She said her stepfather’s threat to kill her and her mother stopped her from reporting the matter to her mother.

A neighbour was said to have found out that the victim was menstruating for 16 days in a month instead of the normal three to four days.

A worried mother subsequently took her to a private hospital for a medical check-up, where it was confirmed that her womb had been infected.

The victim’s mother, 35, said she confronted her husband but had to soft pedal because she lacked the financial resources to singlehandedly cater for her three children aged six, four and two.

The  Oyo state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, has not confirmed the development.
