Two men, Matiko Marwa, 32, and Julius Marwa, 42, have been sentenced to 25 years in jail each for attempting to sell ostrich eggs.
A court in Serengeti in northern Tanzania sentenced the men to the lengthy jail terms after they were convicted for “economic sabotage”. Serengeti National Park is a Tanzanian national park in the Serengeti ecosystem in the Mara and Simiyu regions of the country.
The men were found in illegal possession of 16 ostrich eggs which they confessed to attempting to sell in neighbouring Kenya.
According to AFP, the men were caught with the eggs in December 2016, when they told prosecutors that the eggs were to be used in preparation of a drug to cure AIDS.
