Twitter Inc. has on Wednesday announced the appointment of Iranian-American, Omid Kordestani as its new Executive Chairman and he is from Google.
The 53-year-old Kordestani was a senior Google executive who had been at the company since 1999 and held several positions.
He however left the company in 2009 and returned in 2014.
Kordestani, who took to Twitter to announce his appointment, wrote: “It’s rare you get to be at a company with an amazing business that’s also transforming the world.
“I’ve had good fortune to be at three: Netscape, @google, and now @twitter.”
This was confirmed by Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, who had his own appointment as Chief Executive Officer confirmed by Twitter’s board earlier this month.
Jack Dorsey described the new chairman as a proven and experienced leader who could offer useful advice to him and other senior executives, while also helping to attract quality personnel to the company, the BBC reported.
“A great chairperson is the first step towards continuing to make our board one of the best in the world, and purpose-built to serve Twitter,” Dorsey tweeted.
The BBC also reported a 0.7% rise in Twitter’s share price following the announcement.
