Twitter has confirmed it would hand over the presidential @POTUS account to Joe Biden when he gets inaugurated in January 2021, even if President Donald Trump has refused to concede his loss by the time.
CNN quoted Twitter spokesperson, Nick Pacilio as disclosing this in an email on Friday.
Pacilio’s email noted that the social media giant was “actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021”.
Besides the @POTUS account, about 12 White House-related accounts including @FLOTUS and @VP will also be transferred.
He noted that the process was being done in consultation with the National Archive, as it was when Trump was inaugurated in 2017.
Existing tweets on all the accounts will be archived before the handover.

The @POTUS account which has more than 32 million followers is separate from President Donald Trump’s personal account @realDonaldTrump, which he actively uses to tweet.
President Trump’s personal account has more than 88 million followers.
Twitter has frequently attached warning labels to Trump’s tweets since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently the 2020 election amid reports the president was using his account to spread fake news.
