Fans have to wait only 400 days to see “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Focus Features announced Thursday that the adaptation of the E.L. James steamy novel, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, will hit theaters on Aug. 1, 2014.
The first of a trilogy, “Fifty Shades of Grey” has become a global phenomenon since it was first published in 2011. The book has been translated into 50 different languages and has sold over 70 million copies.
The erotic S&M-laced romantic drama about 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and his submissive love interest Anastasia Steele has become one of the hottest properties in Hollywood.
Focus Features and Universal partnered last year to land the rights to the trilogy from James, who is signed on as a producer, for $5 million. Screenwriter Kelly Marcel wrote the script, and Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are onboard as producers alongside James.
A who’s who of A-listers have been circling the lead roles, with “Twilight’s” Robert Pattinson and Felicity Jones among the rumored names being considered.
