Young Money’s Drake is going to have to learn to embrace social media outlets like Twitter after reportedly earning a title as the “Most Tweeted” rapper of this year.

With a busy 2013 which included receiving his first Grammy award, performing at the annual OVO Fest and dropping a new LP, Drizzycrushed his social media competition.

The purveyor of the OVO sound generated 52,202,000 tweets, as detailed in a report provided to MTV News. Drake’s Nothing Was the Same LP was tweeted about 2,942,000 times and the rapper spawned a number of top trending topics like #DrakeTaughtMe, #DrakeTwitterPassword and album-related trends like #NothingWasTheSame, Pound Cake, The Language and Wu-Tang Forever. Rap stars Eminem and Lil Wayne trailed Team Drizzy in the Twitter competition.

Eminem also had a big year, and the 140-character messages he generated reflected it. His The Marshall Mathers LP 2 single “Rap God” spawned the #1 hip-hop trend (#RapGod) and he was the second most tweeted-about rap star with 21,271,953 messages generated. Lil Wayne was the third most tweeted-about rapper, putting him above popular MCs like Jay Z, J. Cole, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Aside from the album Weezy released this year (I Am Not A Human Being II), fans were talking about his March hospitalization where he was originally reported to be in critical condition. Fans took to Twitter to express support for the multiplatinum rap star, sending over 101,000 messages which spawned trending topics like #PrayforLilWayne, #PrayforWayne and #prayforweezy. (MTV)

Back in September, Drizzy said the authenticity and realness of Twitter should be examined more closely by users.

“Twitter isn’t real, by the way. There’s no gauge on real life on Twitter,” Drizzy argued. “That’s a terrible medium to exist in. You can enjoy it. You can even indulge in it. Just don’t live your life by that weird code on that Internet program.” (CRWN)

A couple years ago, the rap star remembered a nasty experience he went through on Twitter.

“I’ll tell you, my biggest thing was, I remember, it was on Twitter. I remember the day my mom was getting surgery and someone came on Twitter and they were like, ‘Yo, Drake, I hope your mom dies.’ You don’t really mean that. Like, you know you’re going to see something bad. Out of 1000 compliments, it’s so crazy. It’s basically, like, when you used to sit there as a kid, and want to know what everyone is thinking. That’s your superpower. [Twitter is] knowing what everyone is thinking.” (The Source)
