Buhari call

President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has sought President Muhammadu Buhari’s backing for Palestine in the ongoing clash with Israel.

The Turkish President said he expects Nigeria’s show of solidarity with Palestine during a phone call with Buhari on Thursday evening, according to a message posted on Erdogan’s official Twitter handle, @trpresidency.

He said it was high time that the international community taught the “unlawful, unjust and unscrupulous” Israel a lesson.

According to him, Palestine was on a “rightful cause” and would appreciate Nigeria’s support.

“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.

“Exchanging Eid al-Fitr greetings, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

“Drawing attention to Turkey’s efforts exerted in order for the international community to teach the necessary lesson to unlawful, unjust and unscrupulous Israel due to its attacks against Palestine, President Erdogan voiced his belief that Nigeria would show solidarity with the Palestinians in this rightful cause,” the message read in part.

The Nigerian Presidency also shared a statement centred around the phone call but omitted the Israel-Palestine discourse.
